Damay, signed bottom right

12 1/2 x 8 1/4 in. (32 x 21 cm)

Pencil.

Inscription with pencil : "Makings of riot and Crown Court, you can take when you want during the night, in town or in the country. Ask to Doc. Carlier, chief of police in Jerusalem street, for a drastic recovery."

This drawing tells about the events preceding the coup d'état of Prince President Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte, on the 2nd of December 1851. Carlier was chief of police in Paris. In anticipation of the coup d'état, he has been replaced by Maupas, who was devoted to Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte.
